Akumal in the Mayan language means "place of turtles," and the name is well-deserved. Throughout the year, you can observe sea turtles in this bay due to the abundance of seagrass, which they feed on. The most common species here is the green turtle, which uses this beach annually for nesting. Isn't it incredible that many of these turtles return to the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs?
We start the day with pick up at your hotel, heading to the town of Akumal. Once at the bay, we'll swim offshore where just a few meters from the shore, you can observe different types of reef fish as well as turtles.
After snorkeling with the turtles, on our way back we'll stop to swim in two different cenotes, one open and one cave-type, allowing us to appreciate the unique terrain of the Yucatán Peninsula. After all these activities, nothing beats some tacos in town center to refuel.
Remember, life is made up of memorable moments that stay with us forever, and those moments are created today.
